I was born in the mid-fifties so by the time I could walk, talk and sing & dance the “Swinging Sixties” were in motion along with all my early influences. I grew up to the sounds of Ready-Steady-Go, The Beatles and Bob Dylan. On the streets the yet to be famous photographers were making their names; Phillip Jones Griffiths, Roger Mayne, Tony Ray-Jones and John Gay. Before them the likes of Brandt, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Stettner had already begun to leave their legacy. But it was Don McCullin who caught my imagination with his cold, probing pictures that got inside and beyond just the time, faces and places......
I played guitar for years before I picked up a camera, I learned to strum and pick and along with the rest of them looked for the fame and fortune that never came. I played a few bars, clubs and even once the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool but the magic never rubbed off on me......
I worked behind bars, drove trains and ran a multi-million pound company. I found myself on the world stage in a role that wasn't me but called for a good actor; I was a very good actor but now I just play me. It’s only a bit part but it’s the best I’ve ever had......
In the end though, it’s not about where you are, it’s about who you’re with. I am very fortunate, I’ve been with some wonderful people. Even when I’m on my own they are still with me......
