York Photographer of the Year 2013
The photograph - Dancing In The Street - was awarded First Prize in the YorkMix 2013 photo competition. As a result I was named York Photographer of the Year 2013.The purpose of the competition was to capture the Sprit of York in just one picture.
Lead judge Allan Harris, President of York Photographic Society said "This picture captures a moment beautifully, we particularly liked the fact that the busker appeared unaware of the photograph being taken. The embracing couple in the background are lost in their own world, seemingly about to step into an impromptu dance".
Fellow judges, photographer Eloise Ross, and YorkMix visual arts curator, Jayne Dwyer, agreed.
Eloise praised the picture's deceptive simplicity, which heightened the impact, and Jayne, a skilled photographic printer, also noted the technical excellence and clever compositional balance within the frame.
The Hen Party Picture was commended.
The competition was co-sponsored by East Coast.
The winning picture was printed by York Digital Image and framed by Fulford Framing.
