Rugged Faces is a collection of people captured over the last few years in mainly Sri Lanka and India. Many are willing subjects, others just catch my attention and get caught. Either way they show just how diverse the human face is and, in many, how life is for them. I have also talked to many of these people as they go about their daily lives; got under their feet in markets, bus and railway stations, tea shops etc. and they not only have interesting stories to tell but are usually endlessly friendly. Some ask me to send them a copy of their photograph and I always try to do this. It’s strange but I never know if they receive them but I hope they do, it is, after all, my way of saying thank you.
