The North, once the power house of the Industrial Revolution and the engine of the Empire and the economy, lies in ruins along with the reputation of the notion of a once Great Britain. Manufacturing, as a source of wealth, employment and communities, along with the towns and cities it created, is but a memory. And the buildings, the factories, the mills and the streets created to support the hive and life of activity of this one time wealthiest of nations are but reflections of the past. Redundant, derelict, idle, lost, litter strewn and all too often enclaves and ghettos for the failed dreams and hopes of the people, both local and called from afar; the North is but a shadow of its former self. And while regeneration has changed and modernised forever parts of the cities all too often the real world is hidden behind these towers of glass, chrome, retail satisfaction and little boxes on the hill side. Away from this, out of the sight of the politicians, the dream makers, the chattering classes and a London centric England lies the truth; the economically and socially depressed majority. It isn't hard to find and it's all there to be seen in abundance - the run down remains bereft of the Former Glory and now just Ugly Britain.
This is an on-going project and images will be added as they appear.
